Sunday afternoons are reserved for neighborhood drive-bys. I love driving around different neighborhoods admiring very unique homes that have taken care to add nuances that set their home apart from others. I especially love this time of year to seek out ideas for holiday decorations.
What I have done for the last few years that I am especially proud of, is my Christmas Urn. I have a big black faux cast iron planter that I use to create a display of Christmas decorations, plants and lights.
To save money and yet get THE look, I created a Christmas Urn using one of my old fake Christmas trees. Rather than discard it and fill up my local landfill, I repurposed it. This is how I did it.
Originally my tree consisted of: a wooden pole with holes in it, different sized limbs, made from steel with attached faux pine leaves. By taking those steel fiber pine limbs and placing them strategically into a soil or sand filled pot (one that I knew fit specifically for my urn), I could create a decorative urn at no cost. I placed the larger limbs around the base of the urn and with the remaining limbs built my planter up and out until it looked like a finished planter with pine limbs. I have attached a picture of a Christmas urn, complete with several embellishments. There you have it, a reused Christmas tree with decorations, ribbon and lights! The beauty of this urn is that I never have to water it, and can rearrange it for a totally different look next year. Tip:attach a timer to your lights so that you don`t have to worry about when your lights get switched on or off. Really looks beautiful, no one would even know that it is faux Christmas Urn!
